Hamro Club support for disaster victims

In a heartfelt show of solidarity with those affected by the devastating floods in Nepal, Hamro Club Inc. has donated AUD 4,700 to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund of Nepal. The contribution was made on 9 September 2026 following the catastrophic floods that struck the Nepal-China border region on 26 August 2026, causing widespread destruction and hardship.

The disaster resulted in severe damage to homes, roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure, leaving many families displaced and communities struggling to rebuild. As news of the tragedy reached the Nepali diaspora, Hamro Club members were deeply moved by the scale of the loss and the urgent need for assistance.

At the time, the club was preparing to celebrate its annual Teej Festival on 6 September 2026, one of the most significant cultural events in the Nepali community calendar. However, out of respect for those affected by the disaster and in recognition of the immense suffering faced by communities in Nepal, the club made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

Rather than proceeding with celebrations during a period of national grief, Hamro Club unanimously resolved to dedicate its efforts toward supporting flood relief. The club contributed all membership fees collected during the 2025-2026 financial year, resulting in a total donation of AUD 4,700, which was formally transferred to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

A representative of Hamro Club stated that the decision reflected the values of compassion, unity, and social responsibility that the organization strives to uphold.

“While Teej is a cherished celebration for our community, we felt it was important to stand with our fellow Nepalese during this difficult time. Cancelling the event was a small sacrifice compared to the challenges faced by thousands of families affected by the floods. We are proud that our members came together to support this humanitarian cause.”

The club expressed sincere gratitude to all members whose contributions made the donation possible. By donating the entire membership fund collected over the financial year, every member played a direct role in supporting relief and recovery efforts in Nepal.

Hamro Club also acknowledged the efforts of emergency responders, volunteers, community organizations, and government agencies working tirelessly to provide assistance to those impacted by the disaster.

The donation serves as a powerful reminder of the strong bond between the Nepali community abroad and their homeland. Even from thousands of kilometres away, members of Hamro Club have demonstrated their commitment to standing beside Nepal in times of need.

As the affected communities continue their recovery journey, Hamro Club extends its deepest sympathies to all those who suffered loss and remains committed to supporting meaningful initiatives that benefit people in times of crisis.

Through unity, compassion, and collective action, Hamro Club stands with Nepal and its people during this challenging time.
